Your Passion Beyond Knowing and Doing

Are you being the driver of your passion?

Knowing is good, doing is better and being is a level of commitment that requires the least amount of mental energy and attracts the most authentic interest. When you are doing what you love and what makes you the most happy, you tend to become something more than just a person doing a job or activity. You become the artist, the dancer, the writer, the coach.

Resourceful forms of “being” are the ultimate goal of knowing and doing. It’s being the driver rather than a person who is operating a vehicle. Being a driver, when experienced, doesn’t take up a lot of mental processes, which can drain emotional and physical energy like someone applying the knowledge of operating a vehicle for the first time. Though they know that driving will bring them a new independence and eventual enjoyment, the beginner sees, in frightening detail, all of the knobs and buttons and displays and is very consciously aware of the pressure and placement of their feet on the pedals. They don’t yet know how to predict the behavior of other drivers around them or the response of their car’s steering and brakes. The feelings of emotional and physical overwhelm during this trial period can be tremendously high; shortening of breath, heart racing, mouth dries up, feeling butterflies in the stomach, arms and legs tremble from muscle tension, hot and flushed feelings.  After time and repetition and repeated results the person managing the vehicle grows to believe “okay I am good enough” and finally becomes a “driver” where driving is fun and rewarding.

As a business owner or someone who promotes his or her passions, you may remember a time when you felt all those awful newbie type feelings that the vehicle operator feels or you may still experience them from time to time.  You also notice experts in your field who just make it look so effortless. That’s of course where most of us aim to be. Being doesn’t just make communicating easier, it also attracts people to you because you are authentic and that is intoxicating on a deep neurological level.

Now here’s a secret. If you are working hard on making your passion known, operating it  so there are no doubts (especially your own) as to  “qualifying” your authenticity, you do that only for you.  You are already good enough for the rest of us.  Simply be the driver and let us celebrate the passion of who you are.

Love and Brilliance,

Heather Meglasson

Voldemort Voldemort Voldemort and the Projects-that-have-no-name

In J.K. Rowling’s book series, Harry Potter, there was a big mystery created around the villain character who’s name, no-one would mention out loud for fear that he would somehow sense it and come after them. The hero, Harry, was encouraged by his wizardly mentor, Dumbledore, to overcome his fear of the evil wizard by actually using the name regularly and prove by doing so, that it isn’t such a big deal.  So “he-who-must-not-be-named” went from an undefinable entity whose boundaries couldn’t even be seen, to become just “Voldemort,” the bad guy who could be disposed.

Undefinable entity= uncertainty, chaos, overwhelm…
Definable entity= knowledge, clarity, empowerment…

Do you have an undefinable entity in your life called “projects-that-have-no-name?”
A “to do” list unwritten grows to disproportionate sizes inside the mind causing feelings of overwhelm just from lack of visual definition just like our evil wizard in the movie. Avoid overwhelm by writing down your goals and turn on that mental light. Seeing the boundaries of what’s actually there will help you against the evils of uncertainty, chaos and overwhelm and arm you with the magic of knowledge, clarity and empowerment.

So if you haven’t written your goals down lately and are feeling a bit overwhelmed, now is a good time to start again.

You’ll thank you.

The Hidden Answers to What Makes you Happiest

“One’s own self is well hidden from one’s own self; of all mines of treasure, one’s own is the last to be dug up.”  ~Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

A group of women, attending one of my first seminars ever, sat pouring over a list of values that I so cleverly provided for them in an effort to save time by showing them a vast amount of possibilities. The idea was to decide on what values and the accompanying emotional states of mind, were most important to them as a way of shaping their goals with what they really wanted most in life. HAAAA! The joke was on me. What I had done, thinking I was being ohh so helpful, was tantamount to what one of those restaurants with a 20 page menu does to it’s patrons; create too many choices resulting in anxiety over being asked to choose just a few of the enormous amount of tempting items.   After about 15 minutes of watching them highlight value after value, many of them redundant in underlying meaning, I decided to put a simple question out there that to my surprise resolved the issue immediately.

What emotional states would you most like to avoid in life?

Boom, boom, boom, the answers poured out in quick succession:

Humiliation, ostracism, disrespect, hate, fear, greed, manipulation, entrapment…

The list went on. After we defined what those avoidances looked like to them, we were able to reverse engineer what it was that they really wanted, what it was that really mattered to them. It was amazing and eye opening first to create the list (which surprisingly didn’t look much the same as the original long list of value states they had initially selected), then to recognize where all of the pieces fell into place throughout each of their lives.  Even more surprising still was further discovering how they internally prioritized each of those values when cross comparing them all side by side. Many of my attendees found that their initial top chosen value (as a state of being) was actually about 4th or lower on their list and other hidden emotional necessities lay closer to their top priorities.

If you were to create your list and take a good deep look at it, you may just notice that those top value states and their opposing avoidances have been the driving force for decisions you have made throughout your life considering that we naturally move away from pain and towards pleasure. How can you use this information? By cultivating all your innermost desires into an energizing purpose that pulls you and learning how to release the stuff you don’t need that used to be part of what got you to move just to avoid it.

You’re a what?! FAQ on Transformational Arts

Transformation Artist? That sounds like hocomus pocomus! Ah but those who have used this most wondrous emotional, mental, physiological science for their own healthy gains wouldn’t care what you call it as long as it works, and it does.

Here are 7 “Q & A”s about Personal Transformational Coaching and how it can help you build your Happiness On Tap.

  1. What is a Transformational Artist?
  2. What kinds of transformation does a Transformational Artist coach?
  3. What kind of training makes a Full Transformational Artist?
  4. How long are your sessions, how often, and where?
  5. What happens in a free evaluation?
  6. Is this type of coaching right for everyone?
  7. What’s in it for me?

What is a Transformational Artist?

A Transformational Artist/Coach helps you clearly define your visions, release any fears or blockages, and aids in developing tailored strategies to efficiently and effectively achieve your goals.

What kinds of transformation does a Transformational Artist coach?

Today’s most requested services from a trained master coach can be in any of these areas:

  • Emotional trauma
  • Chronic pain
  • Sleep health
  • Weight loss
  • Personal relationships
  • Fears (confidence, confrontation, rejection, failure, success, loss of control, phobias…)
  • Habits (food, exercise, smoking…)
  • Trusting/ Love
  • Releasing unresourceful emotions (guilt, anxiety, anger, grief…)
  • Goal setting and strategizing (business and personal)

What kind of training makes a Full Transformational Artist?

A Full Transformational Artist has been trained, licensed and certified in fields that cover health of the person as a whole, following the idea that there is no distinct separation between the body, mind and energy. For the mind and emotions, it could be psychology or neurolinguistic training or even hypnotherapy. For the body, it could be nutrition, fitness and body therapies like massage disciplines, chiropractics and acupuncture. Also included are one or more energetic trainings like Reiki, yoga and metaphysics and/or other spiritual modalities. All of the above cross over into the mind/body/energy whole.

How long are your sessions, how often, and where?

Sessions can be as brief as watching a video or listening to a teleseminar that interests you, engaging in an e book that asks beneficial questions only you can answer, participating in an evaluation to decide on your specific area(s) of focus, or be more involved from a single live 1.5 hour session as needed to a 6 month or even a life-time package that covers all of your whole-self needs.

What happens in a free evaluation?

Your time is valuable so we aim to get right to the point in this evaluation survey package. You can fill it out at your convenience and email it to me before we schedule our complimentary 30 minute call in which we can easily determine what you will benefit from most with a few focus tools. The survey itself can be quite an “ah-ha” before we even meet.

Is this type of coaching right for everyone?

No.
I take great care in looking over your evaluation prior to taking you on as a client as there may be certain issues in your life that would require a different approach or medical care beyond my scope of holistic practice.

What’s in it for me?

Let’s imagine that as a transformation artist I held the right questions, tools, and (through listening and being present to you) insights, that created the space for you to completely succeed, in 12 months, looking back over the year, what did you accomplish?

Are you ready to play a bigger game this year?

If you haven’t already, be sure to fan me on Facebook or subscribe to my Brilliance Report Blog so you can take advantage of all the tips and goodies I am sending out this year. I am even including trips to Disney and Magic Mountain and doing some skydiving in my life adventure events. Wheeeee!

3 Ways to Create Emotional Bookmarks for Passive Peaceful States

We tag all the events in our lives with emotions. That’s the way we remember them. If we had no emotional attachment to the event at all, it would be very difficult to recall it. Events with strong emotions like excitement, fear or anxiety, those are easy to remember because the emotion is so strong. But what about something like peace, quiet and serenity? It’s a little difficult to remember and evoke that same sense when you’re remembering perhaps being at the beach like I am today. Because it’s so calming it’s almost a passive emotion.

KEY #1

Use all the senses. Remember on purpose. Create that memory. When you encode that memory, don’t just listen to the sound of the waves passively. Think in your mind- I am listening to the sound of the waves. It seems silly, but if you don’t actually make a mental note of the things that you see, it’s just sort of easy for them to slip away and you don’t remember them. So involve all of your senses and do it actively rather than passively: So you see the waves, listen to the waves, smelling the salty air, maybe even tasting the salt in the air, feeling the temperature, feeling the wind. Involve all the senses and do it on purpose.

KEY #2

Find something unique about the event. Perhaps in your life, having peace and calmness IS unique, but to many people who do experience that once in a while, you need to find something just a little bit more unique. Maybe note the day, the time of the year or create a strange name for it. Declare it a holiday. Declare “ this is my Peaceful-Coronado- Friday.” Simply giving something a name is a way of book marking it.

KEY #3 in Creating an Emotional Bookmark for Peaceful States

Allow yourself to crank up the volume on your emotions. You get to choose how happy you want to be. You can say “ I’m happy today” and leave it at that or you can say “you know what, I can choose to be ten times happier than I am right now” even though it kind of blows it out of proportion. Well I wouldn’t say feeling ten times or a 100 times more peaceful than I am right now is blowing it out of proportion. If I could feel 100 times more peaceful than I do right now, even though I’m feeling really good,  I’ll take it!

That’s a good thing.

#1 Use all the senses.

#2 Make it unique.

#3 Crank up the volume.

One Brain For Sale – Condition – Used

In 1990 my new husband and I decided it would be a great idea to buy a boat to live on. So what if we didn’t know much about boating and so what if we both had the tendency to get sea sick in rough water. And so what if my father said “the definition of a boat is a hole in the water in which to pour money into.” We wanted a boat! We didn’t know squat about being boat owners but as penny-pinching newlyweds, we were willing to learn along the way.

We found a neat little 11-year-old 32 foot Bayliner Cruiser that fell within our current means and provided a place to hang our hats. Now having very limited knowledge of the history that our floating home had weathered, we really hadn’t suspected any of the hidden surprises that awaited us. From creaks and cracks, unfortunate ejecting propellers and stinky bilge pumps, learning the hard way where the only surface rock in the bay was, and getting by on one working engine without spinning in circles, we found ourselves in a world of repairing and compensating in order to maintain integrity, balance, and the ability to stay afloat. This is very much the same situation that we find ourselves in as adults when we suddenly realize that we’re leasing a pre-used brain.

GREAT Health is a Laughing Matter

Laughter has AMAZING health benefits and it’s the most enjoyable form of  exercise to boot! Check out this video from Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor from Mumbai, India popularly known as the ‘Guru of Giggling’ (London Times). He is the founder of Laughter Yoga Clubs movement started in 1995. While researching the benefits of laughter, he was amazed by the number of studies showing profound physiological and psychological benefits of laughter. He decided to find a way to deliver these benefits to his patients and other people. The result is Laughter Yoga.

One of my favorite things that Dr  says is

Laughing at you own self allows you not to take yourself seriously, but to take your responsibilities seriously. There is an ancient saying in India –” You are your own friend and enemy”. You are totally responsible for what happens in your life, Never blame others for it, because no one can harm or do anything wrong with you without your permission.

There are so many ways you can create laughter in your life but if you’re interested in joining a Laughter Yoga club, here is a link to Dr. K’s group finder.

One Courageous Woman’s Fight for Balance

Interview excerp taken from my new book Happiness On Tap; Go From Blah to Brilliant in 60 Seconds.

One of the most dynamic, energetic women I know has stared hard in the face of death several times and laughed. After being told she didn’t test for anything wrong, but it was very apparent there was, she made the choice to follow some recommendations that led her to a whole new world of health care options. The balance of her physical health was in chaos, and her regular physicians were not listening to her. Though it would have been easy to wallow in self-pity and cultivate depression, she did not give up on getting the attention she needed. She kept a very positive outlook to get through it, and uses the lessons she’s learned to teach others how to be proactive in their health, as well.

Cynthia K. Hansen Ellis

Professionally educated as a Social Worker with a love for people,  Cindy was able to get jobs with some of the top Health Care Organizations including Kaiser Permanente, and Pacificare. Here she learned the detailed ins and outs of Risk Management, Professional Liability, Regulatory Licensing, and Customer Service. She learned about the “systems”,  road blocks, insurance influence, and bottom line dollar. All of this opened her eyes to understanding the need to be (or have) your own personal advocate.

What influence initially made you accept the idea of using
non-traditional methods of healing?

“I wanted to make all the choice for my body from as much information as possible. Because my original diagnosis was auto-immune related, I believed that my body could help fix the problem, if helped.

When I moved to the Denver area and was seeing a doctor in Boulder, I found and saw lots of alternative options. It was right in front of me and when I talked with people about where to get care, information and treatments, lots of alternative options kept coming up. I was driven there by one person from a Sweet Adeline’s International chorus I coach in Colorado Springs, who has lupus (also auto-immune) and was seeing a very successful homeopathic provider in Boulder. Once I called him and got inside his world, many things opened to me. It was like a candy store of options.”

Cindy, do you think that If you had not believed that you could be helped in a non conventional way, that it’s possible that the healing process could have been sabotaged?

“My current cures are all related to homeopathic (non-western) ways. The total clearing of my blood clots from the spleenectomy was and is from Natto Kinesse, which is totally homeopathic and not seen as a treatment at all in western conventional medicine. The total curing of two cancers I had was from non-traditional treatments and the Vitamin A treatments. Also the APIS – the newest remedy – seems to have moved my blood levels in the normal range for the first time in five years. So these three things have totally assisted if not caused the cure. However, traditional doctors are not willing to respond, acknowledge or support my success. But they have no other explanation. They just don’t talk about it. But they are not treating me for any of these medical issues since they are not happening. So why did they stop? Was I cured? How did it happen? Why did they cancel future treatment and care? I feel they are not allowed to speak and work with these treatments since they are licensed by law to give me the ‘standard’ approved course of action for insurance, licensing and protocol reason.”

How powerful is positive thinking?

“It is the number one reason I am where I am today. There is no other option. You have to have the belief that your fight and your strength, no matter how challenged, will get you through. Believe me – I have my days where I am not the most positive person about all the health challenges I have had. But when you look around, this is nothing compared to what others have survived. I think talking to others about what they can do – keeps you forward and in a good place on what you personally need to do. The focus needs to be outside. You need to have an outlet to educate, and then you get more educated. Also if you are in (somewhat) the public eye, you have an opportunity too that others don’t. When you talk about your challenges you have a choice how you and the illness will be perceived. If you approach it as a winner and survivor – you are impacting others as well.”

Cindy also learned that treatment options come in many different forms, from traditional western, historic eastern and multiple nutritional styles to physical exercise, spiritual and so much more. She is exploring all the options available to her, learning that treatments can be as individualized as the individual. With all this personal training, knowledge and experience she was able to overcome not one, not two, not even three, but four life threatening illnesses, from which she and her family were told, “She will not make it.” Learning about yourself and your body, you can overcome and accomplish anything you believe you can.

“Heavy thoughts bring on physical maladies; when the soul is oppressed so is the body.”

~Martin Luther
